Hi Cold - re: show points - showing points does not work on solids where the surfaces of the solid are joined at trimmed edges rather than a natural edge of the underlying surface.

Please see this FAQ answer for a more detailed explanation and some illustrations that try to explain this issue.

Once you do an Edit/Separate on an object, you should then be able to turn on control points for the individual surfaces since they no longer have any joins to other surfaces.

If you have a problem with the Edit/Separate process, could you please post a file with just the one piece that will not cooperate in it? That would help me to examine the specific problem area.

One note - the points on stuff like the end caps of an extrude are typically a fair amount larger than the original outline, so if you are zoomed in close you may need to zoom out a bit to see the points for the cap's underlying surface.

Does that explain what you are mentioning? If not then I'll need a bit more specific information to understand.

- Michael

Cold,

Here's something I did to get what your talking about.

I extruded my tread pattern, then Bool diff with a profile curve of tire to get the curve suface.

Then I select that suface and extrude it to tread height + sink some into tire before array for later bool.

I did the same cut for the "Edge tread" before array to get the blend from tread to sidewall.

Yes Burr,

I did try that, but i really prefer doing the project, trim from the tire itself.

Still doing some test but i think i getting the hang of things, my start to go for the RIM then the break.

Another test with thread in Carrara
