Hello Finema.

Yes. Mac version is on the road.

But...if you can put your hands on a GPU powered windows machine, take a ride with the trial version of IL.
It's worth it.

As I said, and i want to be clear about this point, the software is still young and it is in advanced beta, so little bugs or "strange behaviors" still occurs,
and the IL team is working hard on these things.
But, believe me, when it comes to realtime rendering I can say that I never seen anything like this.

Absurd and crazy realtime engine with STRT unbiased and global illumination with stunning quality!!

I think it's one the perfect companions for Moi and 3DCoat.

In these days I'm in contact with the IL team to ask them to produce new series of tutorials for beginners,
because, as I said, one of the things that is difficult about IL is its philosophy, how it works.

But when you understand its foundation it's like a video game :)

Ciao and....Merry Christmas and happy holidays!

- Marco (mkdm)

Hello, I don't mind sharing my experience as well.
I've always used plugins due to the amount of control you can get by using them in complete software packages (such as c4d, 3dsmax or blender). I am demanding, so stuff like advanced uvwmapping, unwrapping, light\materials workflow are a must to me.
I never ever stuck with Standalone software for rendering due to the lack of workflow. I find them unusable and uncomfortable. I want everything in a single application.

I started out with VRay 11 years ago, few years ago I tried Corona-Renderer (beautiful CPU renderer) and Octane, and now I completely switched to this new GPU renderer called FStormRender. Best choice ever. It is simple, it is fast and produces unbelievably realistic results.

So my two cents:
Best CPU renderer: Corona Render
Best GPU renderer: FStormRender
Best Standalone renderer: Keyshot
Best Realtime Standalone renderer: Lumion if you don't care, otherwise Unreal Engine 4

Merry Christmas and happy new year to everyone!

M.

Just as a note on here (as I feel it's a duty to look out for good developers) - re: FStorm Render, it has been concluded by NZ courts that Kozlov did, in fact, steal Octane Render's source code while he was employed at OTOY.

So I guess you have to look inside yourself a little if you are going to support this product!

Merry Xmas, anyway!

Not sure what you'd be waiting on as he's already been found guilty.

One hour ago, post by FStormRender developer Andrey Kozlov:

"Hi everyone

5.12.2017 Moscow City Court rejected Otoy's lawsuit.
https://www.mos-gorsud.ru/mgs/services/cases/first-civil/details/9824ceaf-435e-4e9e-9362-b3c050de2437
"Current state - Refused, 05.12.2017"

FStorm won.

Otoy has 30 days for appeal, but their chances are almost zero.
After that the website will be unblocked.

I am still waiting for official court doucments. The court is very busy now.
I will post more information once I get it.

And... Happy New Year!"

A Moscow city court defends it's citizen from a lawsuit from a New Zealand lawsuit with one word, "refused." That's your proof? If you read the other link, you'll see there is ample evidence OTOY is mentioned in the source code.

While I'm not a big fan of OTOY, I can tell you I would not advertise on forums I use stolen code and I *especially* would not defend the thief using such a weak one word ruling.

Hi all,

Since i have not seen such a rendering before i would like to ask you for your support.

If you use Maxwell Render or Thea Render i would appreciate some tips and material set-up's
on how to properly archive a sub-surface laser engraved photo into a glass block.

Here's is my first humble approach with Thea:

Please note: The photo is inside the glass block and not mapped onto the outside.

If you like you can contribute also to the Thea Forum thread, which i started.

Best regards
Stefan

Little update...

Thea user Hieru did an awesome job and nailed the look with his cat image, bravo!

If you use Thea you should check again the thread on the Thea forum!

Regards
Stefan
