PIPE2 Script - Inside Diameter VRS Wall Thickness

Using Pipe2 Script not sure who wrote it but thanks works great have a modelling job with heaps of varying Steel Pipes and Pipe wall thickness would be great if the PIPE script could be altered to REAL PIPE as real steel pipes are usually ordered by OD Outside Diameter and Wall Thickness rather than inside diameter - I am not a coder so modifying the script is out of my depth. Save converting measurements on application.

Hi Alex, please try the attached modified Pipe command which is set up to specify outer diameter and thickness rather than all radius values.

For installing it, see FAQ #1: http://moi3d.com/wiki/FAQ#Q:_How_do_I_install_a_plug-in_script.3F

Please give it some test runs first to make sure it's using the values properly.

thanks thats perfect it now can be used like weldments for solidworks wireframe modelling of actual steel pipe members.

I will post some photos of job at hand.

Hi Pilou, well it's the same function as the Pipe2 command, so see any of the previous images for that plug-in for example here:
http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=1463.9

The difference with this new version is just how the pipes are defined, in the original version the controls were for inner and outer radius values. In this new version you instead specify outer diameter and wall thickness. It still generates the same shapes as the Pipe2 script, you can just input the values in a different way.

Thx for the info! :)

Seems there is a little bug!
I Suppose because I have taken the same value! ;)

Hi Pilou, well I guess yes that is a bug but it's not really one that's worth fixing because you have invalid input there and the bug fix would be to just do nothing there at all.

The diameter is the distance across here:

The thickness is the distance across this area:

Notice how the diameter travels across 2 walls? That means the diameter must be greater than 2 times the wall thickness for a pipe to be structured properly.

You've got both outer diameter and thickness equal and so that's not valid input for defining a pipe in this way. Just don't use that invalid input and you should not see the error anymore.

I understand but...
It's not possible first to test values and send an alert message and/or give a minimum thickness/Outer?

Hi Pilou,

It's certainly possible, but since this script was made for Alex who is experienced with real life piping it just doesn't seem likely that he will be putting in those types of impossible parameters. If a lot of people continue to run into that problem then it would probably make sense at that time to do the extra work that you're talking about.
