Hi gunter, select one of your ribs, then run the Transform > Scale command.

Look in the upper-right corner of the MoI window to see the command prompt which tells you what MoI is expecting for you to do next.

The first prompt is "Pick origin point". In the top view, pick the point here:

After you've picked that point, the next prompt says: "Pick first reference point", here you can pick a point for a base distance or you can type in a scale factor if you know it. In your case, pick the point here:

The last prompt says "Pick second reference point", pick this point here (all picks in the top view so they'll all be on the same plane):

Does that do what you need?

There is some additional information on how the reference points work for the Transform > Scale command in the reference section of the help file here:
http://moi3d.com/3.0/docs/moi_command_reference8.htm#scale

You can also use the Transform > Orient > Line to line tool to scale things into place like this, that works by picking 2 base points and then 2 target points and will rescale and also rotate things to match from the first line to the second line.

You can also use the edit frame scaling grips to do this type of sizing as well, you will need to do one click and release on a corner grip in order to change the origin mode from center to opposite corner.

Michael,

I tried scaling in top view but as the end of the ribs are not in the same plane as the target point, I could not get it to work.

The Orient, line-to-line worked great. Job done.

Thanks very much.

Gunter

Hi Gunter, normally when you pick several points in the Top view, the point picking system will keep them all on the same plane by projecting any snap points down to the plane of your first point pick.

That normally deals with problems like you are describing... There will be different behavior however if you pick points in the 3D viewport, so make sure all the points you pick in this case were all in the Top view.

Or have you possibly disabled the option to keep things planar when drawing in 2D views? That's a setting under Options > Snaps > Object snap options > "Project to plane in ortho views". By default it's on so that drawing in a 2D view keeps the picked points to be all planar to one another, projecting any snapped points as needed. But if you've turned that setting off then that won't happen.

Hi Michael,

I checked and the "Project to plane in ortho views" is on. I'm really happy to have learnt the the 'Orient - line/line' tool you pointed out - worked great.

Thanks much,
Gunter
