Hi Rich, sorry no you can't turn on points for solids except on special cases like a box where all the surfaces have a common control point structure where they meet.

It's somewhat of a weird feature in Rhino, it tries to reconstruct surfaces by doing something similar to the Patch command on it, surfaces can get very complex and wiggly quite easily.

If you want to sculpt an object by moving a 3D control cage around, it's really better to use a sub-d modeling program which is totally based on that type of approach.
