Thanks French Pilou

for your illustration , very helpful to understand !

A little question
Isn't better to working with Percent as a parameter instead of Radius, sometimes you don't have a clue whats size your mesh have.
I just wonder....

Pilou's example is a general rule,in this specific case fillet engine fails because you have the seam of the surface that match the "sharpest" part of the ellipse

So you got to move the seam edge in a "neutral" position using plug in : MarkCurveStart

Picture shows my workflow

Pay attention to fig-A- and -D-:you see i moved the seam of the surface,so i can increase fillet radius to 0,3 but if you try with solid -D- you can go until 0,38
Please watch the bottom ellipse after 0,3 fillet...you can see that it starts to be too squeezed..just were you had the first seam edge..

That's interesting m-dynamics. I didn't know the seam location could have an effect on fillets.

Maybe a script to "auto place" a seam to the most "neutral" location?

Hi urban,

CAD programs usually are oriented around precision modeling and letting you input specific values for things, a "percent of bounding box size" measurement just doesn't go along that same precision control type of orientation.

But there is a secondary mechanism for specifying the radius - you can click 2 points on the model and the distance between those points will be used as the radius. You can use that method instead if you don't want to type in a specific numeric value.

How does one implement/use the MarkCurveStart plugin?

You have to unzip the attachment from this post here: http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=5288.21 and copy the unzipped files into MoI's commands folder.

On Windows the commands folder is located inside of MoI's main installation folder, like: c:\Program Files (x86)\MoI 3.0 beta Mar-17-2013\commands . On OSX you need to right-click the MoI app and choose "Show package contents" and inside there go to drive_c/moi/commands .

Once the files are copied over, that will then make a new command named MarkCurveStart available. To trigger the command you can either push Tab and then type in MarkCurveStart and push enter, or you can set up a shortcut key under Options > Shortcut keys, and put in MarkCurveStart as the command to be triggered by that shortcut key.

Then the way that particular command works is to select a curve before you run it, and when you run it, it will generate a point object at the start point of those selected curves.

Hi Mike,

> Where do I find the MoI's commands folder. MacOS 10.6.8.

On OSX you need to right-click on the Moi app icon, wherever you have installed it to (it's common to place it under /Applications I think), and then on the menu that pops up after you do a right click on the app choose "Show package contents". That will open up another finder window showing you the directory structure inside the app package. On that inside directory structure navigate to drive_c/moi/commands - that's the commands folder you need to copy the plug-in files into.

Thank you. I should have read your earlier response more carefully! Anyway I got it.
Is there a master list started for additional user commands we can add?

There is a list of plug-ins collected on Petr's page here:
