I have some supplied STEP files. Each file consists of 5 Objects. Is there a way to 'combine' the 5 objects into 1 so that when I export for Modo, I just have one layer in Modo?

Yes - select all the objects, and then assign them all the same name. You assign a name by clicking on the name line in the object properties panel:
http://moi3d.com/2.0/docs/moi_command_reference11.htm#propertiespanel

Then make sure you have the "Combine same named objects" checkbox enabled under Options > Import/Export, it's at the very top of the dialog.

When "Combine same named objects" is checked, objects that share the same name will be exported to a single combined mesh object when doing an OBJ or LWO export. Use LWO format for going into Modo.
