[Q] Turn on points for polysurfaces

Hi all,

I'm just curious when I trying polysurfaces in MoI.
See below image, only the box object is points on when showpts command. All of these are polysurfaces and joined, not separated.
I don't know why points are shown on the box only. In the Rhino, all of the polysurfaces cannot be turned on points.
Is there any difference in between MoI and Rhino?

Thank you,
momso

Hi Momso,

> Is there any difference in between MoI and Rhino?

Yup - this is an extra feature of MoI where it allows you to turn on control points for polysurfaces, if all of its surfaces share common points along their joined edges.

This happens with a box primitive, and also if you do something like a Loft with polylines or curves that have sharp corners in them.

All of the other shapes that you show there have a trimmed plane in them, and the control points for that plane do not align with the control points for the neighboring surfaces, that's why their points don't turn on. You'll see the plane's points if you use Edit/Separate on them and then turn points on (zoom out a bit, sometimes the plane can be extended a bit).

Some more information in the FAQ here .

- Michael

Hi Momso. In Rhino 4, you can use the SurfaceCreasing plugin to create single surface versions of all those primitives in your screenshot. The surface creasing works on all surface creation tools (extrude, loft, sweep, etc). And you can turn on the control points for a creased surface... The difference is that in Moi, a box is represented by 6 sides. In Rhino, a creased surface box is just one surface, which has a toplogy similar to that of a sphere (see my attached image)...

Hi jonah,

Thanks a lot for the info. I have found the plugin from the RhinoLab. I tried the plugin with Rhino4SR2.
For example, draw a square curve then CreasseSplitting (with SplitAlongCreases=No), then ExtrudeCrv with the curve. but, it's a polysurface, not a single surface.
When extruding the curve, 'Cap=No' is making single surface, but 'Cap=Yes' is making polysurface and cannot turn on points. My objects are different from your image. What is my mistake?

Sorry all for the question about Rhino in the MoI Forum.
