Hello,
I´m almost sure that threads (M8) are possible - but how?
I wasn´t able to find it here.
Best, Mala

Download my:

"Easy Installer Dark Neutral Grey UI Complete with Instructions"

here's the link:

http://moi3d.com/forum/messages.php?webtag=MOI&msg=10509.1

You will find scripts for Nuts and Bolts and screw maker scripts in the Scripts and Extras popups.

Hey D,
I tried to install, but the installation failed.
I must say that I did follow the recommandation to create a folder "ui". I did this in the MOI program folder.
Then I saw there was a conflict perhaps. The ui folder was already filled with files.
Is there an other native ui folder in the moi directory?

Hi Mala, for a less intrusive alternative you can get just the nuts and bolts plug-in from Max's file repository.

Go to http://moi3d.com and click the link for Resources, inside there click the link for "Max's file archive". Then it's listed under "Scripts" > NutsAndBolts.v.0.96.2015.06.22.zip .

Instructions for installing a plug-in are in the FAQ here:

Just read the instructions again...

Also, you MUST run this as administrator or with admin rights (per instructions)

This is NOT in the MOI directory but the Moi in the appdata directory.

Anyway, once done correctly, you will also have the screw scripts which let you do just threads, threads on bolts, heads and internal threads. for nuts. The NUTSAND BOLTS lets you make the whole M-xx family instead.

hey guys,
I want to make a screw. I searched in the forum and youtube for a good tutorial, but I could´t find one, even not for Rhino..
I know the tutorial from Phil Nolan, but (I think) he´s cheating. First, its not a real screw-profil, but anyway, in the end, his screw is not a solid...
So I know the beautiful screw script, but I want to build a M25 screw (the script is for max. M10) and I want to understand how to do it.
So firstly: is it more easy to build a screw with as a boolean UNION with shaft and thread? OR with boolean DIFFERENCE (build solid cylinder and bool. diff. the negative of the thread)?

Anyway, when I try to get it by b. union, I firstly build the solid cylinder. Afterwards I create the profile and the helix. Then I use sweep or rail revolve to get the solid thread. So now I want to union them, but the program is loading for some time and nothing happens.. Can you help me?
I attach the data for you.

Thank you so much! This program is so great!

Best regards

Koi

Hi Koi, there's a tutorial here:

http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=490.36

Boolean union is probably the easiest.

But don't construct the thread so that it's just barely skimming over the same surface area as the cylinder, make it push through into it a little bit.

See the above link for some more description of that. It's difficult to boolean pieces that skim over some overlapping surface area instead of pushing through each other a little bit to make a clean distinct intersection.

Some other tutorials linked to above in this same discussion thread:
