You're welcome.

Watching how accurate is that model, I think you could for sure start the production of these items on your own and sell them around the world :)

Ciao!

Hi Marco,

the shown model is a free one, available for Shade3D and served only as example.
You are right however, one could start an additional business segment with that
in case he/she is a good modeller of the human form, or uses high-res head-scans
as a source for a bas relief.

I know two successful russian artists who do excellent bas relief artworks for 3D Print
and CNC with ZBrush, but i am not sure if those things would guarantee a steady
income here in Europe and i am only a hobbyist, who does not plan to do 3D business.

Regards
Stefan

If you study the Russian MoI Forum you will also find the awesome bas relief artworks
from Leonid Kischtschik. The cool thing about his works is that he often combines ZBrush
with MoI.

Here's a link to his gallery. Simple click on the first picture and then on the upper right
link again to see the next ones.

Interesting how you used free files to show your proprietary technique. How exactly does that work?

Thank God Max and others here don't share your attitude, "see how cool my technique is but I won't share it with you."

The whole point of community is to help each other out. Many of us visit to help out and share.

I kinda would get it if you were trying to build and sell a product. But your stated goal is a hobbyist. I guess the secret will die with you unless someone else takes time to figure this out and share it. Heck, if I had time right now, I would do just that.

Chipp, I fully agree with you. I wanted to write something more or less the same, but I was afraid of my poor English, not to be misunderstood. Hobby and secret - an interesting combination.
Many people in this forum deserve thanks: Max, Chipp, Frenchy, Marco, BurrMan, Andrei, Michael of course and many many others (sorry I did not mention). Thanks to you, this forum is alive and has been perfect for years. Chapeau bas. Thank you very, very much.

And one more thing. Perhaps I am wrong, but I suspect that the secret technique is based at least partly on the ideas and solutions of a cnc4free man who disseminates his knowledge and skills for free.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zurRXrntJs

His motto is "FREE CNC methods for small business and the serious hobbyist"

While i am aware of Free CNC and freely available softwares like bmp bender etc.
i studied research papers, regarding this topic.

With freely available techniques from the Internet it is not* guaranteed that
you get no extrusions at the models silhouette, the further the Z-axis goes.

Personally I am for sharing information, but I think one is free to share, or not, said this, these bas-reliefs can also be done in other ways with Blender (https://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/1161/how-to-make-a-displacement-map-from-existing-3d-geometry), then use that image generated and with the Heightmap script you have a nurbs surface , using a displacement image.

an example made with a displacement map and heightmap script

Is that produced from an 8-bit or 16-bit image?

I would assume you could create an image and use Rhino to apply the image as displacement- if you needed a nurbs surface. - not tested by me. I would just use the mesh
