Trying to immerse radially, by using booleans, objects on cyclic shapes -dots on a ring for example- I came across to a need for a radial move (as in the image below: you take an anchor point in the middle of the array -the red dot in the image- and then you get closer or send far to it the spheres around). Is there a way of doing such a move with the existing tools? If it is not I think that it is a feature that should be put to the list of feature requests.
I know, there is the way of creating an array on a round curve of a smaller or bigger size but it is a time consuming and tedious process to try to achieve the exact distance by creating, all the way, new arrays. It is important to have such a move kind, it would be very helpful when placing objects cyclically on a round object.
But that works off of the object's bounding box center - for more precise control over placement you're probably better off using Transform > Array > Circular.
At some point I'd like to make arrays work with history, that would probably be what you're looking for really.
You can actually set that up now using the Transform > Rotate command with the "make copies" option. Start with one object, use Transform > Rotate with the "Make copies" checkbox set to place other ones, then select them and use Edit > History > Enable update to turn on history updates for those objects. Then when you change the original one the rotated copies will be regenerated.
I've attached an example file - note when you drag the rightmost circle the others will update.
Hi Michael, thanks for the fast reply! I will try the methods you mention but... how do you activate the 'explode move'? Is there a script to put to the shortcut keys menu?
Just press TAB and write explodemove, or EplodeMove or anything you want as big letters but no Sp ac e, point,_,-, etc!!!
You can also make a shortcut as usual and write explodemove on the secound column!
