Chip,

All your ideas are really great -- thank you for taking time to send them along -- greatly appreciated.

With regards to the grid with the lights underneath -- is there an example you can point me to? Would love to get a better sense of what you're suggesting.

Thanks -- !

Rage on,
Ty

I don't have time currently to experiment, but I did find a few 'inspiration' images which might help...

You can create smoke in KeyShot with alpha plains with Photoshop cloud textures in the transparency channels. Layer a bunch of them every which way.

Best of luck!

Colleagues,

Managed to carve out a little bit of free time over the winter break to get a bit more MOI practice in.

Best wishes to everyone for a grand and evolutionary 2017.

Rage on,
Ty

Hy TyRuben.

Thanks a lot for sharing an best wishes to you too!

Just one question...

These objects that your are modelling are only fantasy objects or something real ?

See you.

@> mkdm -- Imaginary — in each, there's usually half a dozen “things” i’m trying to accomplish from a modeling or rendering perspective — so they are primarily driven by learning — however, I try and make them interesting as well.

@> PaQ — Thank you — !

Ty.

Sweet. Very.

You should check out 3D Coat for some other ways of accomplishing 'sketching' in 3D. I've a tute or two up on YouTube. FWIW, 3D Coat also works great as a UV mapping tool for MoI3D (forget the topology unless you just want to play around). Works great and you can work directly with PBR and send to KeyShot.

Chipp,

I've been looking into 3D Coat -- and very close to diving in -- my only worry is that renders often look kind of doughy -- but I've been told the speed of the workflow compensates for this -- will check out the videos -- thank you.

Hi Ty,

Yes, you are correct, there is the 'doughy' thing. If you check out my video on 3D Coat Live Clay you'll see a way to work around some of that:

Thanks Ty.

Learning new things is fun. I've recently been porting some of my older stuff, (like the drone ambulance I did awhile back for FASTCO
https://www.fastcodesign.com/3041696/this-drone-ambulance-is-totally-wild-and-totally-inevitable) into room-scale VR and it's amazing what you find out about your designs when you blow them up to real size. In my case I found out the Drone was too short, too wide, the seat too large, the gurney too large. Too much attention to tiny details and not enough attention to mid-scale details ( http://www.neilblevins.com/cg_education/primary_secondary_and_tertiary_shapes/primary_secondary_and_tertiary_shapes.htm ).

It's a fascinating design learning experience. If you have access to a GEAR VR headset you can see:

Colleagues,

Do to a number of unexpected professional twists and turns, I find myself the owner of a new Mac book, and as such, I’d like to start running MOI on it. I’m sure the question is answered here on the forum many times, however, as I have a pair of new renders to post, I thought I’d just inquire here. If I download and install MOI on a second machine, do I simply put in my license key from the e-mail I received after my original purchase?

My guess is yes, however, I thought it worth asking.

Thank you!

Rage on,
Ty
