Hi NightCabbage, if nobody here knows the answer you may want to e-mail 3D PaintBrush tech support which seems to be here: support@3dpaintbrush.com

Yeah I did that already but they haven't gotten back to me yet.

Just thought someone here might know - given it's a pretty basic feature?

Marco,
How did you get the symbols on the door and on the bumper? I can't figure out how to make that happen in Kerkythea.
Thanks!

I'm surprised no body has mentioned "Rendergin" : http://www.numenus.de/index_en.html
Its not free however it has some unique features worth paying for : Direct NURBS raytracing and global illumination. This means that you don't have to tessellate your models and therefore their rendered form is not approximated/is perfect.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gGX1GP_d78

It supports MOI's files directly and scene setup is very simple. The only downside I can see so far(keep in mind its still a beta) is slow rendering speed(when soft shadows/reflections are present) and jumpy interface navigation(seems they are down sampling the image too much).

I have tested today RenderGin ;)
Seems loading Nurbs have always some problem, some surfaces are not rendered! ;)
it's twice the same symetric objet, on in grey, one in bicolor!

From: Ambimind : "Its not free ..."

Not even near: With 800 Euros for the entry version and 4500 Euros for the professional version, once it leaves beta, according to their resellers' website (http://www.3dcyberdream.com/index.php?mnav=0103&id=21), this is not a software that I would categorise under "easy on the budget".

From: Ambimind : "The only downside [...] is slow rendering speed".

We have fidderent, eh, different priorities, obviously ;)

Edit i: It seems one needs the pro version to render nurbs surfaces. I guess I will stay with exporting obj format for a loooong time. And with my trusted Thea render @ 300 Euros.

Don't if it was said but i usually look at all the 3D mag each month to see what kind of free software they have.

I got a free copy of Carrara 7 pro from a 3D mag, full commercial value.

I got Truespace that it is free i think.

So Rendergin is advertised (is that correct ?) as a realtime nurbs render engine ... that finally cant open nurbs data (at least with the trial version) and give slow renderspeed Oo.

... wonderfull world :)

Btw the comparaison seems a little bit biased ... the poly version on the right looks more like a vertex normal glitch than anything else. I never had to push the polycount that high when exporting MoI model into Modo.

Thea render seems indeed really nice product.

PS About about RenderGin : works a little more better today with the same file! :)
But has always numerous "splats crash" for many manipulations!
Something annoyous : don't respect color given in MOI (no color)

<< until now there is no GPU Window version.>>

That isn't true. There have been a few Win GPU versions (albeit a little dated).

Here is one for Win64:

Here is one for Win32:

PaQ and Pilou,

I've made some further tests, it seems NURBS import works fine when exporting from NX 7.5 and using Rendergins "OpenCASCADE" nurbs importer. Below you can see an example, where the solid on the left is perfectly represented, despite very complex loft and blend surfaces being present:

In addition I received this message from the Oliver Abert, regarding some import issues I was having:

"it would help if you could send me a screenshoot. However, from what you describe I am pretty sure it's a known problem occuring from to conservative NURBS parameters (for our internal stuff). You could try to increase the settings for the NURBS (in the NURBS plugin settings). However, beta 3 is quite old (from October 2010) and in the meantime we have worked a lot on all parts of the software, but especially on the NURBS. Unfortunately at this point in time I cannot say when we will release a new version. We decided to go back, work under the radar and then finally release a really polished version once it is done. Keep an eye on our homepage and/or Facebook account for major announcements hopefully in the near future!"
