Is there a way to import MOI models into VectorWorks?

Many times I have wanted to model in MOI but can't import the mesh into VW for npr isometrics and perspectives. A brief work-around would be fine.

A quick check on Wikipedia shows that this $1600 to $3100 program for Mac OSX, imports the following:

DWG, DXF, PDF, EPSF, 3DS, IGES, SAT, Parasolid X_T, Sketchup, IFC, SHP, JPEG, BMP, PNG, PSD, SGI, TIFF, TGA

(Moi shows export types of IGES, SAT, 3DS, Skp, so it looks like there are 4 possibilities...?)

Not sure what your problem is: vectorworks cannot handle the .3dm format but more than one of the MoI export formats. I usually use .sat format, but check 'file-import' for all the options in vw and decide what suits you best.

I'm using it now and then to save to .dwg to hand stuff over to acad fans...

Apologies for very late reply - buried for the last few weeks.

>$1600 to $3100 program< Ouch! Well outside current budget, bemfarmer.

macray, you are spot on with .sat. Thanks.

I do not have, and cannot afford that program ("vectorworks") either.
Since you wanted to import into it, I assumed that you already had the vectorworks program.
The point was that there are several ways to import Moi files into the program. Edit: directly from Moi, for free. :-)

Hi bemfarmer, you were right, I have and use Vectorworks a lot. MOI to VW using SAT or IGES work just fine and so MOI models will be used in architectural drawings we produce here. Modeling in VW for simple CAD is pretty good but, I have found MOI's workflow more to my liking.

Cheers!

:-)

Do you have any non-proprietary examples you could post a picture or 3dm of, for the education us non-architect Moi users?

The attached kitchen cabinetry isometric (VW) is the kind of view we will do to tell the contractor what we want. "A picture is worth a thousand words." The MOI Gallery links below are three models I did with MOI.
