Hi Martin,

> I guess my problem is that I deleted a lot of OS X fonts
> from which I thought that I will never need them.

Yeah that's probably the problem then - right now it's set up to use Arial and I had just assumed that it would be present since it's part of the stock OSX install.

There are a few variations of Arial, including stuff like Arial.ttf, Arial Black, Arial bold, etc... if you can get those back into your /Library/Fonts folder that should hopefully fix up that problem.

It's also possible to change the font that MoI uses for the UI - that's a setting in the moi.ini file, let me know if you want to change that and I will describe how to do that. Some fonts seem to cause problems though.

Hi Martin,

That's good to hear - so far the problems seem to be related to systems using the Intel video chipset for the graphics.

No problem, I really hope it will be useful!

Please let me know if you find anything that does not work right.

Thanks,

Regarding shortcuts:

ctrl-X, ctrl-S, ctrl-O, ctrl-N, F1 for example work right out of the box.
I was not able to assign the cmd key instead of the ctrl key. The Key field remains blank when I tried to fill in cmd-X for example.

ctrl-C and ctrl-V do nothing. This is bad since there's no menu alternative.

Trying to assign the Backspace key instead of the Delete key also leaves the Key field blank. But ctrl-X works fine as an alternative.

Hi Martin - so the MoI shortcut key editor thing is rather primitive and you actually need to type in the label of the key you want to use there, not just press the key itself.

So for example to assign Backspace, type in the actual text:   Backspace   in that field and then that should work. Just hitting backspace will actually just edit the text in that field and not assign that key.

I want to overhaul this in the future to work more like you were expecting it to, it's just been hard to dedicate much time to it yet since it's not something that you have to deal with usually all that much.

> ctrl-C and ctrl-V do nothing. This is bad since there's no

Well, there is on the Edit palette on the side pane, but it's not a shortcut problem, the actual functions for copy and paste don't seem to be working properly and I'll be looking into fixing them.

To get the Cmd key working instead of Ctrl you can right now try editing the shortcuts and putting in Alt in place of Ctrl and then it seems like they will work with the Cmd key actually.

That will be another area that I'll need to tune up for the OSX version, to recognize Cmd as a shortcut key and to have the defaults use Cmd+c for example instead of Ctrl.

Please let me know if you run into any other problems than these.

Thanks. Michael.

Working great - except the issues mention above - in a 2009 iMac 27", 2,8 Ghz, 4GB, ATI HD 4850 512 MB, Mac OS Lion 10.7.2.

Moi was the main reason to switch to Win PC: Moi is an Amazing application!

Cheers, Carlos

Thanks a lot. The Arial family was the first font I tried yesterday but I made the mistake to install all fonts into my Username/Library/Fonts folder. I just moved all Arials to /Library/Fonts, restarted MoI and enjoyed the result.

>type in the actual text: Backspace in that field
Works fine, thanks!

>I want to overhaul this in the future
Not needed if there's a shortcut section for OS X users in a future help file.

>try putting in Alt in place of Ctrl
Works fine. Don't waste your time in fixing that just mention it in a future help file.

>Please let me know if you run into any other problems than these.

We'll do.

So far MoI works very well, it's fast and responsive and best of all I have no need to fire up VMWare and look at Windows 7 (Sorry I can't stand it).

The resizing display stuff is also no problem for me.

Also the Windows file dialog is totally usable. With it's File Save Undo .. Icons at the bottom MoI clearly isn't expected to work exactly as an native OS X app anyway and that's fine. I can do what I need in MoI now without any virtualisation software. I couldn't be more satisfied just as it is now.

Also allowing one licence for both operating systems is a very generous policy by you. I'll probably (hopefully) don't need Windows for the rest of my live but others use both. I wished more companies would act like you.

I'm looking forward to upgrade to the OS X version MoI.

Actually what you did there was supposed to work but it looks like I've got a bug in the thing that was supposed to also look in that alternate Username/Library/Fonts folder.

So I'm glad you mentioned that part so that I can fix that up too.

For this first version the fonts will need to go into /Library/Fonts for the moment to be seen by MoI.

Hi Martin,

Well, I really do need to overhaul it at some point because a lot of people expect for it to work in the more usual way of doing the keystroke that you want to set, and a lot of people won't read help file stuff.

> So far MoI works very well, it's fast and responsive and

This is great news that it's fast and responsive - that seems to be one area that this particular porting mechanism is good at doing.

Yeah - it's somewhat that way actually on the Windows side as well - that it doesn't particularly follow typical Windows UI conventions there either. That's kind of an advantage at this point though since it doesn't look overall as weird as a regular Windows program would running under OS X. That is until that file open dialog comes up which really does stick out like a sore thumb. I definitely want to try and get the native dialog working, I don't think it will be too much work.

Anyway, I'm really glad that it's working well for you so far!

Yes, any v2 license including an EDU license has access to the v3 beta releases.

> and what's the upgrade path to v3 when 1.0 comes out?

You'll need to purchase an upgrade license to the v3 version when it's all finished up and the beta period is complete. There should be an edu discount upgrade version available, it will probably cost the same as the v1 to v2 upgrade which was $50 for educational, $100 for regular commercial.

It will still be quite a while before the final v3 is ready, I expect the beta period to probably run through until late next year.

Hi Luis,

> Here's the screenshot on my black mac (running lion).

Thanks for posting that - I did see something similar to that while developing it, and I think it has to do with a particular OpenGL function not being available.

I'm not sure if it's really not available or if there is some bug where it just thinks that the function is not available when it actually is.

I will be looking into getting an OSX laptop with the Intel graphics chipset so I can do some testing with it and see if I can solve this problem or not.

Is there anything I can try looking into (e.g. video settings, moi config, etc.) and modifying so i can help you with the testing?

I don't think there's anything like that you could do with the current version - I'll probably need to do some debugging here with it and I'll need to go back and forth between making changes in code and testing it frequently so I'll pretty much need to have a machine right here to test with.

I'll look into it more next week and see what I can figure out.
