Well, it sounds like the Intel chipset is the main thing that does not work currently unfortunately.

However, I don't think that MoI actually needs to do anything that the Intel chipset cannot actually do, so there is still some hope that it might be able to work.

But in general the Intel chipset is much lower powered in 3D performance than stuff from either ATI or nVidia, so for 3D specific use it is usually better to have either ATI or nVidia graphics.

Yeah this is a beta version, not a trial version - I will eventually have a trial version ready but not until the v3 beta period is over and the final release is out, that's been the regular beta process for a while now.

This sounds great for the Mac users!

Excuse my Mac ignorance, but will MoI now run on let's say an iPad?

Hi Michael T,

No, the iPad is pretty much a separate kind of thing than a Mac - it has a totally different CPU in it. The new MoI version does not run on an iPad, only on a regular Mac.

You can set up a remote desktop app for the ipad so you can control your main computer's screen from it though.

Some recent discussion on it here:

This seems to so far be the main case where there has been a problem, and it's probably something related to the Intel integrated graphics which that macbook model uses for its 3D graphics display.

Could you try to post a screenshot of your screen so I can see if there is only some particular portion of the display that is not working right? Seeing the result may help to give me some clues on what area to look at.

I don't think that MoI actually needs to use anything that the Intel chipset is not able to do, so there is some possibility that things could be tweaked so that they work there, but it's also a matter of whether Apple's driver for that video card is good enough as well or if that driver is buggy.

Hi ycarry,

> By the way how change options?
> i.e. some keys not works... and all are with Ctrl not Cmd

For the Delete command put in Backspace in the left-hand column and then you should be able to delete stuff.

In place of Ctrl try Alt instead and then see if that works with the actual Cmd key.

It looks like Copy/Paste of objects may not be working right though.

Great, thanks for testing it!

Yeah that seems to be busted, I'll be examining that.

> Unusual using the CTR rather than CMD key on Mac. Having

Try putting in the MoI options as Alt - does that then work when you actually use the Cmd key? Other than for copy/paste which is busted somewhere else.

Also if you don't have a delete key on your keyboard put in Backspace in the left-hand column for the Delete command shortcut.

Working great on my little Mac Mini (Snow Leopard v. 10.6.8). Now I know what I'm grateful for this Thanksgiving: Thanks for bringing MoI over to the Mac, Michael. I might have an upcoming job that will require the on-site usage of a Macbook and I can just about guarantee I won't be allowed to use Windows via Bootcamp if I do (nor do I want to spring for the additional cost of the OS). You couldn't have picked a better time to release this.

Thank you for your comments, Michael. I will closely watch the testing progress and look forward to a Demo version at the end of beta phase.

I am thinking to update my Mac hardware at some point in future and all the hints and tests here are very helpful to make the right decision.

Still hoping though that you may get the Intel gfx to work...

Thanks again for your dedication,
Chyman

I have not purchased yet because I was waiting for the Mac version. Any chance of getting a trial of the Mac version at this stage?

Thanks

Hi Jeff, right now it's at the "beta" stage - I do expect to have a trial version in the future, but I make trial versions for fully released programs, not for each beta release.

So there will be a trial for it eventually when the beta period is finished.

Thank you so much Michael! Now I don't need my pc anymore. :)

Installation went well, but the copy and/paste command didn't work.

Hi wzhang, I'm glad it will be useful!

Yes it looks like Copy/Paste is one thing that is broken - I will be looking into fixing that up.

Please let me know if you find any other functions that don't work right either.

>When you go to draw a line or something that uses snaps, are the little labels that attach to snap points that say what it is like "End", etc.. also missing?

I use an English system. Yes, the snap point labels are also missing.

I guess my problem is that I deleted a lot of OS X fonts from which I thought that I will never need them. Fonts like Arial, Trebuchet, MS Sans Serif and so on. Yesterday I used Pacifist to extract missing fonts from my Snow Leopard Install DVD and installed a lot of them. But unfortunately I still didn't find the right one. I think when you tell me the name of the font used for the labels and the Shortcut window I'll be able to solve the problem.

I just installed MoI on my *11-inch* MacBook Air bought in January 2011 (with Snow Leopard) and it's totally useable.

Hi Martin,

Yeah that's probably the problem then - right now it's set up to use Arial and I had just assumed that it would be present since it's part of the stock OSX install.

There are a few variations of Arial, including stuff like Arial.ttf, Arial Black, Arial bold, etc... if you can get those back into your /Library/Fonts folder that should hopefully fix up that problem.

It's also possible to change the font that MoI uses for the UI - that's a setting in the moi.ini file, let me know if you want to change that and I will describe how to do that. Some fonts seem to cause problems though.

That's good to hear - so far the problems seem to be related to systems using the Intel video chipset for the graphics.

Regarding shortcuts:

ctrl-X, ctrl-S, ctrl-O, ctrl-N, F1 for example work right out of the box.
I was not able to assign the cmd key instead of the ctrl key. The Key field remains blank when I tried to fill in cmd-X for example.

ctrl-C and ctrl-V do nothing. This is bad since there's no menu alternative.

Trying to assign the Backspace key instead of the Delete key also leaves the Key field blank. But ctrl-X works fine as an alternative.
