Hi Paul,

> Any plans for 3D pdf export/save for v.3 ?

No, not currently - unfortunately 3D PDF is not particularly easy to work with from a programming point of view, you have to use various libraries and there as been quite a bit of flux in some of the library situation as well with Adobe kind of backing out of it and handing it off to some other company or something like that.

Enough confusion about it that I'm not particularly enthusiastic about jumping into trying to make sense of that at least for a while yet.

I'd recommend looking at SimLab composer for generating 3D PDF files:

Even with a pdf solution to a quick-viewer for 3d models, you still have to have the pdf view loaded on each operating system that the model is to be viewed on.

I know pretty well, that a script can be set up to both expand the UI in MoI and do something cool like auto-rotate. The auto-rotate script is pretty snazzy BTW.
I bet there could be a way to use this ability with MoI to show off a model.

Maybe not from a purely executable standpoint, but maybe from a command line run. ???
MoI's clean and anti-aliased viewing of NURBS models is hard to beat.

Hi Michael T.

Well, Adobe Acrobat Reader is one, it can view 3D models since a couple of versions ago. The good thing about that one is that a lot of people already have it installed in order to view 2D PDF files.

There are various other viewers out there as well, but using the Acrobat one is probably your best bet for one that might not need any further installation done.

Hi Michael G.

I was wondering about freeware viewers for other 3D formats such as 3DS or OBJ, etc. files, rather than 3D PDF. Something that would not require 3D PDF generation.

Tryin' to get by cheap (or free!) :-)

Seems the free Meshlab can read all these formats or other and make also more things :)
http://meshlab.sourceforge.net/
sure it's not a "real viewer" but result is the same :)

Hi Michael T - well you could send whoever you want to view your model a link to the MoI "no save" trial version which they could then install and use to open up your main 3DM file.

The direct link to that one is here:
http://moi3d.com/2.0/trial/moi_v2_nosave_trial_setup.exe

There's a freeware viewer and converter program here that loads IGES or STEP files:
http://iges2step.narod.ru/

You can probably find a few other OBJ viewers by google search, like:

http://www.aweapp.com/obj_viewer/
http://pti.iu.edu/avl/GLM_AVL

Or probably the trial versions of various different programs might work, like you could use the trial version of Silo (http://www.nevercenter.com/silo/) for an OBJ viewer.
