I projected the text to a surface. Extruded it to the thickness I wanted. You can then use that original surface and "trim it" with the projected text. Keep all the capping part. Then I copied and moved my caps to the other side of the extrusion and joined into a solid.

Let me know if thats not clear and I'll re-create the file with the steps in it to see.

I'm often needing to do similar things with text for some of my jewellery designs.
Firstly you'll need to use your Projected text curves to Trim that curved surface you've made, then select those surfaces & extrude.
Just make sure you have the Cap ends checked.

Another way you can review this file is to select one of the text faces and seperate it, then select all the faces edges and hit delete. This will recover the underlying surface to see. Then you can "retrim" any of the text if you want.

I think that Burr and Colin answered this above, but also you may want to check out this previous post for some illustrations on what to do in that case:

The method there is to trim the surface with the curves, that will then basically create the piece that you want to have as a cap right there.

Then when you extrude, extrude the cap surface itself, rather than just the curves.

When you extrude a surface, the surface's edges will create side walls the same as when you extrude curves, but it will be able to place a cap at the other end even if the surface is not planar because it can place a copy of it there.
