New beta available from the download page at http://moi3d.com/download.htm, expiration extended to Jan 25.

New stuff... let's see - everything from the previous patches is included. Some of the highlights from that are: Axis snap, automatic joining when reading IGES files, use Alt to disable snapping, and some fixes to triangulation to reduce some kinds of long skinny triangles.

Brand new stuff - documentation is now included in the install. The introduction section is not finished yet, but the tutorial and reference sections are finished. Also now if you push F1 or click the help button while you are running a command, the reference section will open to the entry for that command.

Updated AI export so it works better with smaller sized curves.

Updated Arc continue so that you can start the arc from any point inside of a curve instead of always forcing it to start only at the endpoint of a curve.

Performance update for higher entity counts - streamlined some stuff to speed up the case where you have a large quantity of individual simple entities like 200,000 separate line segment curves. This draws about twice as fast now.

Various bug fixes...

I'm not sure yet, but I hope sometime next month!

I need to finish the introduction section of the documentation, but that is going to be a pretty basic overview.

Then a few other steps like figuring out what kind of license key type thing to do and setting up e-commerce stuff...

Hi Michael, I have download from your link above.
When I saw the download page, I am still see "moi_Sep-4-2007_setup.exe"
But I just go to download, uninstall MoI then reinstall from the new MoI exe.
Then run MoI, but may be there is something wrong.
Look at image below :

Where is the Nov-18 Beta ?

I got the same problem. Normally the sharp edge should be without a break.
When I add radius to the rail, there is no break area. So the problem is ?

Hi Michael,

great to hear that the release is close :-)

I found "ShareIt" extremely good for selling my shader-plugins for messiah:studio. They do a perfect job with international sales, tax calculations etc., have a wide variety of payment options for a very reasonable fee and are dead solid so far and very helpful if I needed support. The developer interface is well thought out and has a lot of options for integration etc.
I can really recommend them.

As far as licensing goes: I hope you settle for something that doesn't hurt the paying customer more than the pirates. ;-)
I've encountered all types over the years from dongles to just a serial to node locked to just one machine. I still prefer dongles (although it can be a pain - I am up to 7 dongles already ;-) ) since I can put them on whatever machine I have to work with. If you decide to go for node-locking, I hope you will make it possible to install on at least two machines, so if something goes wrong on a deadline, one is still able to work with the second installation of MoI without having to contact you.
I also work sometimes on my main machine at the office - other times on location with the laptop and am thankful if that is not a problem.

I really look forward to what you come up with! :-)

Hi Nimi,

that problem is due to current limitation of sweeping along one rail which has a corner....
but if you copy a rail into some corner of rectangle and sweep a rectangle along that new rail and original one,
it should match your needs.

Hi Lish, what I meant when I said "some corner" was, if you copy the rail into the appropriate corner, then it should work :)
Just move the one of the rail curve into the opposite corner, so they will be in the same height at the Top viewport. -Petr

Hi Nimi - for version 1.0 MoI does not handle mitering on a rail that has sharp corners in it.

Instead right now it will just sweep each segment of the rail as if it was an individual line segment, that's what gives the result that you are seeing.

But actually for the shape you are creating in this case, I would recommend drawing a vertical profile and then using extrude to punch it out to the side like this:




I am definitely planning on adding in corner mitering for sweep in version 2.0 though, I just didn't have time to get to it for version 1.0 .

Hi Thomas, I've heard some good things about ShareIt - at the moment I'm planning on using Plimus which is very similar.

Re: licensing - node-locking / dongles

I still haven't exactly figured this out yet, but I really don't want to do a dongle since I'd rather avoid needing to actually ship physical stuff around...

If I do end up with some kind of node-locking, I do want to set it up to work on at least 2 machines. I don't want to have to make people contact me all the time either! That's why I may not go with node locking, to just reduce complexity and potential additional required support. But I need to dig into it for a bit to really evaluate pros and cons.

Hmmm, If I understand correctly, you mean that if I'm pressing F1 while running the Extrude command (for example) the help file must open at the place where Extrude is explained. It always opens at the table of content here.

And one question... If I look for help on one feature, it will open an Internet Explorer window. Then, if I'm clicking "Help" for another feature a bit later, it will open another window. Is it how you want it to be ? Personally, I would prefer that only one window remains open and that the content updates if I look for help on another feature.
