Hi,
I want to export an object from MOI to Cinema 4D and work on it
there as Polymesh consisting of Quads.
MOI export as obj > Quad retopology with Instant Meshes > Import to C4D as obj
My question : Which export parameters in MOI are the most favourable
to obtain the best Quad configuration in Cinema 4d ?
From: Michael Gibson
Hi Tom, I don't think there is any one single set of parameters that would be the best for every single case. It depends on a lot of the specific details like the shaping and size of the model.
It would probably help to give some advice if you would share the particular model file that you're exporting.
Some general tips though I'd say would be to probably try and use the "Divide larger than" parameter when you are exporting to dice up polygons into smaller pieces so that it resembles what a 3D scanned object looks like.
I think I've heard that the current best automatic quad retopo processor is "Quad remesher" mentioned here:

The web site for Quad remesher is:
https://exoside.com/quadremesher/ and they seem to have a Cinema4D plugin now as well.

Hi Michael,

Yes I thought it would be difficult to give general advice and I also made use of the "divide larger than" function.
But still getting bad results in Instant Meshes (Holes even when generating very small triangles)
Maybe I should use another Remesher but InstantMeshes was attractive because it is free.

Hi Tom, I'd suggest to try QuadRemesher linked to above.

I´ll do so Michael and thank you for your supprt.

Maybe you can help "instant remesher" by the "NGones" export obj?
Or something that be sure to work :)
Modelize in Moi only with BoxModeling & subdivision! ( _subdiv_beta9 by Max Smirnov :)

Oh hello Pilou,
Do you mean I should try to export Ngons ?
You are the Subnurbs expert here and I had also the idea of contacting you regarding my question.
To boxmodel within MOI could sometimes be the solution but is it possible to export the boxed
version as quads to the get a quad Poly mesh in Cinema ?
From: Frenchy Pilou (PILOU)
I believe if you make "box modeling" + subdivision (Max Smirnov) inside Moi, you will have automatically quads inside c4...
Quads like this ... that makes difference than regular quads ? I don't know :)
From: Frenchy Pilou (PILOU)
If you limit "Ratio Aspect to 1" at the export OBJ you will have this! So real quads! ;)
Not regular like classical...but what difference for the Render engine ? ;)
For polymesh in C4D I don't know again if that is satisfying !
Just try it! :)
I suppose that you have seen this another free one ?

Thank you very much Pilou !
It seems that InstantMeshes does not like Ngons and
Autoremesher makes troubles, too ? I will go trying ...
From: Frenchy Pilou (PILOU)
Take just triangles maybe for the quads transformers!
There is also a free one that makes quadrangles! : Meshlab!
some alambicus but...
https://www.meshlab.net
And you can also send me your file for test inside ZBrush or 3D coat...they have remesher inside! ;)
I have not c4d!

Thank you Pilou for the tip - downloading .

>>And you can also send me your file <<
If I really encounter a huge problem, I will come back to your kind offer, Pilou - thank you.

Monsieur Pilou, may I ask you for links to your great tips and tutorials about Subnurbs-modelling in MOI ?
From: Frenchy Pilou (PILOU)
maybe there

The one of today :)
When some faces on a solid are not divided for general subdivision so fails
Draw lines missing
Select All / Trim
Kill Curves (Browser curves selection)
Subdivide

Fantastic and thank you very much !
