Hi, someone knows how to import in MOI a file from 3d Studio max?

Hi eugenio, can you show what it looks like inside 3DS Max?

Usually models in 3DS Max are made out of polygon mesh data but it depends on what particular plugins were being used.

If you only have just a .max file and not a running 3DS Max it can be difficult to translate since the .max file format is not documented.

Export file formats from 3D Studio Max:
ATF IGES (. IGS)
gw : OBJ-Exporter (.OBJ)
ACIS SAT (. SAMEDI)
Most Autodesk software exports to .sat, .iges, and .fbx formats.
.sat files work well between Autodesk software and MoI3D.
@ Michael: If you only have just a .max file and not a running 3DS Max it can be difficult to translate since the .max file!

To achieve good quality in MoI, here’s my method:
I import .fbx files into Blender, then export them in .iges format to MoI3D. If necessary, and for better quality, I use Blender’s Quad Remesher add-on (it’s also available for 3ds Max). Finally, in Blender, I use an add-on to export in .iges format to MoI3D.

Both add-ons are really inexpensive:
The .iges export add-on: 10 euros
The Quad Remesher add-on: The price of Quad Remesher for Blender is $79 for a perpetual license per user (I'm using Blender 4.5.8 LTS)
All in all, I have 10 solid pieces for this armchair (MoI3D moi_v5_beta_Apr-27-2026). In the last screenshot, only the wired version is shown.
