your suggestions (hints) are just fine.

Edit: I was so focus on the fleurette thing as MagicMike calls them that I didn't even see the scroll. I'm also trying to learn how I could design such thing and for the same reason, CNC. I'm a newbie at all this kind of intricate 3D stuff and I admit I have a hard time figuring out how to incorporate the use of tools such as blend, loft and network but I'll get there someday. I think your scroll gave me an idea which goes basically like this, as you did, create the basic surfaces and or solid and "blend" then together either using the blend command, boolean diff and or trim. I'll give it a try and let you know how it works.
