how to import to 3ds max correctly?

Is there a right way to do it? I am getting shading artifacts all the time whatever options I set if i try to export as fbx or obj.
It works better if imported as iges although but my max 2008 hangs in a half of tryouts. Beside I would prefer to have a poly object.
