I've attached an updated version of Nudge.js which will use the current cplane's axis directions instead of only world directions.

re: View rotation - have you tried the new "Free rotation" option under Options / View / Rotate/Pan/Zoom options / Rotation style ?

That style of rotation is not relative to any specific fixed direction so it could work better in the kinds of situations that you are describing.
