obj-Export with "_1" Suffix

Hello MoI3D user, every time when I export my model into an obj-file, I notice that I get on every named object an "_1" suffix. Eg.: I name several objects within Moi "Screw", "Main-Body","Frame" - I then get ""Screw_1", "Main-Body_1","Frame_1" when I import this obj-file into C4D. Did I miss any settings? THX! Best, Robert

Hi RJ, can you please post an example .3dm MoI file and .obj output file that exhibits this behavior? That would help me to diagnose what is going on.

Hi Michael, thx a lot for your quick response. Here is a small sample: Test-OBJ.3dm with 3 Objects (3 Solids: "Left-Part", "Main-Frame", "Right-Part") and the Test-OBJ.obj export . When I import this .obj file into c4d I get a null-object (which is great) and 3 objects in it ("Left-Part_1", "Main-Frame_1", "Right-Part_1")... hmm ... where is the suffix "_1" coming from? :-) - Maybe I have overseen something. THX!! Best, Robert

Hi RJ well the names in the .obj file don't have any _1 on them, this can be seen by opening up the .obj file in a text editor.

Also there isn't any _1 present when importing them into other programs, for example here with Silo and Rhino:

So that would lead me to conclude that it's the C4D importer that is deciding to add the "_1" suffix. Are you bringing the file into a model that already has some existing objects with those names? If so then maybe the C4D importer decides to append a counter onto the new imports.

Maybe there is some option in Cinema4D to control that. For more information you will probably have to ask Cinema3D tech support since it's being added by their importer.

Hi Michael,
oh man .... - you are absolutely right!! I have now taken a close look at the input dialog and there is a combobox ("Splitting") - by default it is "By Object" (which give the _1 suffix) but when you enter "By Identical name" then you get the object name exact as in Moi3D. Sorry for this stupid question - I should have looked into it more closely before. THX for your help!! Best, Robert
