Need help: Duble name of Solid
 1-20  21-31

Dear friends!
I need your help!
I don't know where and how I made the mistake (or maybe it's some kind of bug or glitch) - but I have a problem.

There is an object, solid.
But for some reason it has two names: Corp_0000 and C_Corp.
And I just can't get rid of it.

When one name is hidden, part of the solid disappears.
The second name (Corp_0000, when I select it) - highlights the solid, but no transformations are possible with it (move or copy, etc.).
But if I delete this name, the solid is also deleted.

Help, I don't want to lose a responsible model.
The file with the scene is attached.

Any help would be welcome. Thanks!

Hi krass, it's possible to assign a name to face and edge sub-objects of a solid if those are selected when you set the name. That's what you have in your case here.

To clear those, click the selection dot area of the names that you don't want:

Then click on the name line in the properties panel here:

That will bring up the "Edit object name" dialog which looks like this:

Press Delete to clear out the name and push "OK", and that will remove those names:

re:
> But if I delete this name, the solid is also deleted.

You don't want to delete the objects assigned to the name, you just want to clear out the name property on them using the "Edit object name" dialog.

Michael, thanks a lot for the quick response!
I'll try to figure it out by following your instructions.

A small request - you could not "fix" my file while I experiment with your instructions (I'm just afraid something will completely and irrevocably ruin something); (((

To be honest, I didn't quite understand in the end: yes, I deleted the second name, but how to make my solid have only ONE name and not two? ((((

Hi,

Did you try making both names the same to gather all the bits and pieces of the object together under the same name?

Hi krass,

re:

> to make my solid have only ONE name and not two? ((((

That looks like you may have something like a space character in the name instead of the name being totally deleted.

The sequence you want is:

#1 - click on the selection dot for the name you don't want.

#2 - click on the name line of the properties panel to bring up the "Edit name" dialog.

#3 - press either delete or backspace so the name field is totally blank. Do not type in any other characters.

#3 - press OK and the name should disappear in the scene browser.

Michael, just don't kick me.
Now I am struggling with the second riddle:
I downloaded the file that you fixed for me and continued working on it.
But now - for some reason - it was on this solid that the Fillet option stopped working.
I create a cube next to it - it works on it, and on my model - the cursor rotates in anticipation and that's it.
and - on any edge, even the simplest. (((

Of course I tried!
I danced for two hours around this model with a tambourine and songs.
When I give two slots the same name, I get this (half of the circle is hidden, it means that something is not displayed)
But what - I never found the reason.

File in attachment - you can try to try.

Hi krass.

This happened because first the object was given the name "C_Corp", then some part of it was given the name "Corp_0000". But this part with the new name is still part of the "C_Corp" object, so you get this unusual behavior. This can be easily checked by creating a cube, giving it a name, then giving some part of it a different name and you will get the same behavior. As far as I understand, manipulating names does not affect objects in the scene in any way, if you delete all the names, the objects will always remain.

Hi krass, it looks like there are a couple of areas that have some messy trim boundaries and a few spots where there are some very thin surface fragments. I'll investigate it to see if it can be tuned up.

Hi krass, I've attached a version here where I repaired a messed up trim boundary in this area:

And I also found 5 very skinny surface fragments where the surface was compressed all the way down so they were like a line instead of having any surface area. Surfaces that are squished down to no surface area can cause problems with some of the mechanisms that traverse faces to gather up all the adjacent outside or inside faces. I removed those as well.

I think this version should behave better.

- Michael

Michael, thank you so much for your help and for taking the time to solve my problem.
I realized that the point was incorrect geometry.
There is a question - how to identify such problem areas?
It doesn't always work visually.
Is there some script (or a command like N that shows empty planes) to spot these problems?
How did you find out exactly where the geometry needs to be repaired?

Many thanks!
I think I understood the principle.
Apparently this happened by accident, but I did not pay attention to the fact that two parts of the same object were given different names - as a rule, I do not do this, so I could not immediately understand the problem.

ps. Do you speak Russian or is it a translator? )

I am also happy to have such a meeting and it is always nice when the advice is useful.
Michael and the rest of the participants in this forum, I apologize for the deviation from the English language, sometimes it is easier to explain in your native language.
