Reseting Win10

Hello Michael,
My apologies for such stupid questions
I have been away from MOI for well over a year. And forgotten some basics
I have to reset my Win 10 machine, This means deleting all Program files.
Q1. Where does the MoI licence Key live. I copied it off for downloading V4 Betas. But I cannot recall where it goes within the MOI program File structure?
Q2. I would like to have the same GUI and access to scripts and shortcuts for V4 that I had set up in V3. Is there a guide or a discussion threads you can refer me to? I recall that this was not difficult but now I cannot remember how.

Hi Maysky,

Well when you run MoI the first time on your reset machine it will ask you for your license key and when you put it in, it will save it.

It will get saved as a text file named moi_v3_license.key in the MoI appdata folder, which will be at %appdata%\Moi, which is:
C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\Moi

Well it depends on what GUI customizations you had applied to v3.

For shortcut keys, if you backup the moi.ini file and restore it on the new one that will bring over your shortcut key definitions. The moi.ini file is located in the same MoI appdata folder as the license key file.

If you had installed any custom plug-ins into v3's commands folder you will need to copy those into v4's commands folder as well. In v4 you can copy them into %appdata%\Moi\commands instead of the install folder so you won't have to copy them again with any new versions.

Then if you had applied any GUI customizations like the CustomUI one you would need to install the v4 version for those, for CustomUI there is a link here:
http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=6507.1

I would recommend to back up the contents of %appdata%\Moi (your license key and moi.ini file are there) and also the MoI V3 install folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\MoI 3.0 - any custom commands you had installed will be in the commands folder inside there.

Thank you Michael, as always, you are a legend!
I will implement your recommendations.

Just to make sure I understand…
If I wanted to be mobile and have MoI running on a USB HardDrive I would need to have both (AppData\Roaming\Moi) and
(C:\Program Files(x86)\MoI3.0) directories on the HD?

Yes, you need to have the stuff that's in both those directories on the USB drive but for that case you can combine them together, copying the moi.ini file and moi_v3_license.key file from AppData over into the same folder as MoI.exe .

When MoI starts up it looks in the same folder as the .exe for those files and will use them if they are found there.

The regular install puts them into the AppData folder because by default Windows (since Vista) restricts programs from modifying files in the \Program Files folder, unless the program is run at a higher privelege level. It would not be good for the moi.ini file to be read only by default because then any changes to your settings wouldn't be saved.
