Matching camera angle of supplied render to create a wireframe overlay

Hi All,

I'm just wondering if there is a way to match the camera angle exactly to a client supplied, finished render?

I have tried a script in the past (on this forum) that had a way of aligning the camera however the results were not ideal.

It's a bit of a convoluted process but the client has supplied a rendered image and a cad file of said image. I need to match the cad file to the image with the exact perspective. This is because I need to export a vector wireframe (.ai file) from MoI and overlay the wireframe over the supplied render in photoshop. The wireframe needs to be in the exact perspective so that it overlays the render correctly.

Hopefully my explanation is clear enough. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Jakub

Hi Jakub, sorry no there isn't any functionality in MoI for matching the camera angle used in an existing render image.

That is something that is usually found in a rendering program. A common term for that is "Perspective match".

Here's one tutorial for doing it in Cinema4D:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q35_A-848dw

One for Blender:

Rendering programs like those have some detailed controls and processes for doing that type of camera setup so your best bet would be to use one of those tools to set up the camera.

Perhaps the import/export of camera via FBX would be feasible?

Yes, right now i'm using Modo Camera Matching and trying Fspy (https://fspy.io/) for Blender (i'm new to Blender).

But they're polygon modelers and i prefer a precise way of modeling (love Moi) as i'm halfway to visualisation and building stuff.

Fspy is open source. If we could import .fspy file into Moi and work from a locked view with original (and semi-transparent) photo, its possible to model closer (more accurate) to real objects/rooms/etc.

Cheers

Hi,

MoI/MODO user PaQ did this years ago with MoI and Modo, but I no longer know the thread title here, sorry.

P.S. Just found one Gallery image from PaQ, with a MoI wireframe overlay.
