Hey guys,

I'm a new MOI3D user and I have some trouble to model this thing in orange :
I tried multiple way to do it but still not happy with the result or not really clean flow.
If there is someone that would take the time to show me how to do that, I would be more than happy.
Thank you

How to deal with panels

paneling ... something like hard surface ?

extrude the line
boolean diff between the round solid and the extruded line
then fillets on the separate pieces

there is other techniques like Offset and Inset

i'll join a file in a minute

@ Corchet
use this free cool one for image: https://imgbox.com existing eternity and cool system of management!
And this free one for files till 20 Gigas each file :) http://www.wesendit.com existing 7 days (in free mode)

Another method...(in French here with some little other tricks! ;) https://moiscript.weebly.com/trucs-astuces.html

An arc circle and Bool Diff materialize the cutting line.

Selection of the 4 sides for the Inset function

Boolean Union if needed

Selecting an Edge and Box Selection for Fillets

Hi SKR90, there are some tutorials you can get (at minimal cost) here which go over methods for doing this style of modeling:
https://gumroad.com/l/fGqqS
https://gumroad.com/l/vavRq

I think that those would be likely to help you.

Hey everyone,

Thank you so much for your answer,
I tried different technique you posted here and I will try to be more accurate to explain my issue.

The technique using the merge bolean works pretty well for symetrical paneling.
In my case the paneling is not symetrical.

1 = My solid
2 = Solid + Curve
3 = Solid + Curve different angle
4 = My issue after trying to extrude my curves.

With the different techniques I tried I end up with issue ( cannot fillet the geo after operation )
I hope it will makes more sense.

Thank you for the tutorial,

Hi SKR90, can you please post the .3dm model file of the object you show in your screenshot there?

Hi SKR90, your file doesn't have the linework that you were trying to extrude. Could you please include that so I know that I have a proper example of what you were trying to do?

Thanks, - Michael

Hi SKR90, one possibility could be to use Construct > Offset to make offset curves, then Edit > Trim to cut the surfaces into separate pieces. This is a little easier if your curves are perpendicular to the border edges at their ends because then all the offsets will just naturally line up with each other.

Check out the attached model example, I have modified your curves a little on this one so each one ends perpendicular to the edge.

Another possibility is to sweep a tube along your path and then do a boolean with that, see attached file. This one is also simplified quite a bit if you have perpendicular endings.

For making an extrusion to divide the solid into separate solid chunks you could try doing a type of "radial extrusion" by going to the top view and using Transform > Scale > Scale2d to make 2 copies (ctrl click on the final pick for scale to make a copy) and then loft between those to make this type of thing:

That can then divide a solid like this:

To make a solid cutting tool to cut your original solid up:

This is probably not going to be very good for filleting though, although maybe it would get simplified some too by having ends be perpendicular to the ending edges.

with the first technic ... extrude and boolean diff

you can extrude curves on differents plans

so you have various splitted pieces ... you can boolean union them to build pieces ( examples in yellow ) I union 2 pieces

the avantage of that ... all can be filleted

There is a limit of 50MB of total attachments per forum user so that the web server won't get all filled up.

You can go to Options on the upper bar and then Attachments on the left-hand side, and that will show all your attachments that have been uploaded. If you delete some of them from there that would open up some attachment space for you to post new ones.

The other option is to a file sharing service like Dropbox, One Drive, etc... and upload your file there and post a link to it here.
