Arching question

Hello,
first of all a warm hello to everybody from Germany.
I am completely new to MoI, thank you for developing such a great app.
I am a photographer, doing a lot of 3D objects in Metashape and i am also a pro in Illustrator and Photoshop.
I have a 3D obj from a cello top plate and a couple of photos from different views. ( Illustrator path of the outline, too).
What i did until now in MOI, imported the picture of the front view and constructed the outline of the cello plate, also the f-holes.
Then i scaled the piece to its original thickness.
Now i need to construct the outer arching of the plate. Do you know a good tutorial how to do it, doesn`t have to be free.

Thanks

Hi JL, so the tricky part is the surface of a cello isn't just a flat plane and it isn't even curved in only one direction like extruding a 2D curve straight out will produce.

To make a curved surface like that you would need to position some cross section profile curves and then use a surface construction tool like Loft:
http://moi3d.com/3.0/docs/moi_command_reference7.htm#loft
or Sweep:
http://moi3d.com/3.0/docs/moi_command_reference7.htm#sweep
to construct a curved surface.

The other thing is that you generally will want to make the loft to be a larger sheet which then will get trimmed to your top 2D outlines, rather than trying to construct a surface directly to those outlines. See here for an example:

Hello Michael,
thank you so much for your quick reply.
Yes, I know it is a difficult think and more difficult for a newbie.
Will take a look at the examples, let`s see whether i can work it out.

Best wishes
