Hi,

is it possible for sweep to set the alignment of the points before push ok button and create the solid?
This object seemed so simple but it isn't.

Thanks a lot
Marco

If I add a small fillet, instead, the sweep is correct!!!
Why?

Strange thing: moving the profiles a little bit away from the edge of the rail, it works...
Any idea?

Michael will give you the technic reason ;)

In this case better to snap objects (rectangles) by their middle edges on the curve ;)

And maybe a start and end profil for help the function...
any fillet here but snap rectangles by their middle on the curve...

Pilou,

it could be done, but when you start working on a ring, you have to begin with the internal diameter (the diameter of the finger) and so why the rail is internal and not in the middle or external.
But ok, for the advise.

Thanks

All is possiblel
But more you have principal profils more it's easy to have exactly what you want! ;)

And with the middle edge you avoid the crossing Left Right along the curve of your 2 rectangles!

Hi Marco,

re:

It's possible in the Loft command, but not Sweep currently sorry. There is an automatic alignment process but it appears to be doing an incorrect alignment in this particular case.

It looks like that is because your profiles are on opposite sides of the rail. The way the automatic aligner works is it moves one profile along the rail until it is at the same location as the other one and then compares the profiles to find the closest match. But if you do a sweep with just one of your profiles you will see that at that other profile location you've got the profile on the opposite side:

Well, it's unusual for the sweep profile aligner to get confused. The reason why Sweep doesn't have a manual alignment control on it like Loft is because until now I don't think there has been a case where it didn't work as expected.

The problem probably has to do with a bug when one closed profile touches the other closed profile exactly at a single corner point.

When you do a fillet of the profile it's no longer in that one particular failing case anymore, that's why.

Same thing, it avoids the "corner to corner touching" case which is probably the thing that confuses the automatic alignment mechanism.

Are you still stuck on finishing up this one or with the filleted/repositioned versions working does that unblock you from finishing what you need?

And don't worry, I'm still learning, so there is no problem... nothing are blocking anyhing!

Thanks a lot!
