IGES export issue with V4

Dear all,

I am struggling with an issue when exporting in IGES format and importing it into CAM software. The CAM software shows an error message that the import file contains a non-supported element type "Manifold Solid B-Rep Object”. It also stated that in the CAD software the element type “trimmed surfaces Type 144” should be used.

Exporting the same MoI3D native file with MoI3D V3 the import into the CAM software works fine without error message.

The file contains a super simple object (see attachments).

Also when opening the two different IGES export files they look different (V3 has black lines, V4 white lines for the edges) and have different files sizes.

Does anybody have an idea of what needs to be done to solve the issue with V4 export? Can something be configured in the settings (I looked for settings but could find something for IGES export)?

Thanks and best regards,

sunspeed

Hi I think is a problem related to your file I looked it and it has much more than one obj in fact it has 12 object such as solid for boolean operation and other line for construction these solids.

I presume that, the CNC machine need only a single clean geometry here the error is on the 3d scene when you save highlight what object you want and then export with highlighted object that allow only the exporting of selected in 3d view.

Hi pafurijaz,

Thanks for your feedback!!

Just for info, I exported the solid called "Platte m Nut u Loecher" by selecting just this solid before exporting. So the other elements are not exported and also not visible in the IGES file. Attached in my initial message the 3dm file and the 2 versions of the IGES files.

So actually I still have the issue.

Best regards,

sunspeed

Hi, I made several experiment and you are right the file exported from Moi has other objects, the best way to get a clean file is exporting into sat format and import again into empty scene and export the new one into igs. but if your application doesn't support trimmed surfaces you get the same visualization problem as the screenshot below of my test done with gCAD3D and PolyCAD, i used other application but is hard get a file correct, the best way is making it by network curves in the holed faces.

Here a test made with Blender modeled and converted to nurbs now the file is a correct solid but with a less precision maybe the best way is to do the holes without trimming but making the solid as a separated surfaces and then join together and making a solid from surfaces.
.

I attached several files the clean is without any other geometry ha only surfaces.

Hi sunspeed, what happens if you use Edit > Separate on your objects to break them apart from solids into individual surface objects before doing the export, does that help with your import into your CAM software?

Please let me know if that works and if it does I can make an option for doing that automatically.

re: other objects - those are probably hidden objects. If you do a "Save As" instead of "Export", it will write hidden objects to the IGES file but I think they should be marked as "blanked" objects in the file.

Hi Michael, hi pafurijaz,

Thanks a lot for your help!

I tried to separate the solid into faces as Michael recommended and this directly works perfectly!

This forum and the members are magic!!!

Again thanks a lot,

sunspeed
