Hi Michael,

would it be possible to include an image browser down in the scene browser where you can manage the images as backgrounds same way as the styles, objects and types?

A small tool which lists the background images with names and icon if visible or not. I know it is already there but under view -> image, in my opinion a bit complicate.

Cheers,

Axel

Yes, that is something I've been thinking of for quite a while, I mean moving things involving lists of stuff to the scene browser.

It could probably work well under a "View" section of the scene browser, and also saved views and cplanes could go there as well.

But I would like to move all the functionality into there if possible not just have it in addition to the current View > Image. The part that is somewhat tricky with that is incorporating other controls (for stuff like Align, etc) into the scene browser. That will be something new in the scene browser and so needs some careful design work.

It's definitely something I want to explore in the future though.

Hello Michael,

that's great to read this is considered to be changed. And yes, it makes sense to have image functionality in one and the same menu and not in two.

Maybe having an arrow icon and clicking on that opening the align and move menu, same what you made for the styles where a small window opens for further options.

Thanks,

Axel

That might be possible, that also kind of implies that there would need to be the concept of a selected item on the list which also would be a new thing for the scene browser as well.

The other problem is that currently starting the View > Image command is what enables background images to be editable by dragging and scaling them around inside the viewport. Then when you are not in the command they stay out of the way. So if the View > Image command goes away there needs to be some alternate mechanism for that.

So there's a fair number of things to be dealt with but it does seem better overall to have lists of things accessed by the Scene browser rather than in individual separate commands.

Hi Michael,

that sounds logically and what we discussed some time ago, that popping up windows is not the style of MOI, at least when you have a lot of such popping menu windows. But I like the way you managed the integration of the scene browser.

One more thing fits here well: do you think it would be possible to put the lock/unlock function into the scene browser as well? Please teach me if I am wrong and the possibility to lock or unlock objects is already there. You could shift it from the upper menu to the scene browser -> objects.

Cheers,
Axel

You can use the Scene browser to do lock/unlock, it's done by holding down the Ctrl key when you click on the left-most area, where the eye icon shows for hide/show. The eye will switch to a lock for locked objects.
