configurations

Hi Micheal

Is it a consideration in the future to have some sort of configuration/State in MOI.

My work lies in the field of Visualisation and tech illustration. Many times my models (usually imported from CAD) contain items like doors, actuators, arms etc which can be in a variety of different positions. I put the relevant parts (ie. door, hinge) into operate items then i can rotate about centre points to achieve door open, door closed set up.

It would be a great if there was a way for moi to remember these states - at the moment a work round is to copy the parts one for open, one for closed. But this makes the files bigger and what if i need a half open state - then its another set of parts.

Any ideas?

Regards

Matt

Hi Matt, I'd kind of think that an instancing mechanism would need to come first. Maybe just an instancing system alone would solve some of the current issues like with file size.

If it's causing a lot of difficulty right now you might benefit from using Rhino to manage the different configurations.

That doesn't mean that I don't think that MoI won't have some kind of configuration state in the future, just that it's not really on the radar right now as a prominent high priority item.
