Hi,
From an older thread :
"Im sure you already heard of Inkscape. Inkscape got Spiro Curves.
What I love about them is they allow you to draw perfect curves, with fewer control points !
.. it would be nice to hear from you if this kind of tool is potentialy code-able :)
"I've contacted him ... and unfortunately the library that he has released is under a license that prohibits its use in commercial applications like MoI, the library is allowed to be used in Open Source applications only (like Inkscape for example). So it does not look like it is possible to use it inside of MoI.
In the future I want to experiment with some kinds of energy-minimization for curvature distribution which may give a similar effect. The most interesting thing about Spiro curves to me is not just continuity but more about the nice and even distribution of curvature along the curve."
Are you aware, Michael, that Raph Levian has continued the development of Spiro, and that he published his interest in
licensing it ?
"I’m interested in licensing this spline", see :
https://raphlinus.github.io/curves/2018/12/21/new-spline.html and
https://raphlinus.github.io/curves/2019/05/10/spline-licensing-update.html
As you had said in the thread "The most interesting thing about Spiro curves to me is not just continuity but more about the nice and even distribution of curvature along the curve."
TOM
