I tryed searching the archive but did not find any mention of point clouds. Is it possible or are there plans to be able to import a point clound as you can in Rhino.

Love the program when I have time to play with it.

Hi Larry - it is possible to have individual point objects, but they are mostly set up as markers that you can place to snap back to later on, not really intended to be used in large quantities as point clouds.

I'd guess you'd use point clouds for reconstructing surfaces from scanned data, like some kind of reverse engineering type work?

I'm sorry but reverse engineering just isn't really a big planned target area for MoI.

It may be possible to add some stuff in this area in future versions, but it will probably be quite a while before I'll have time to work it. Other tools like Rhino will be better for that kind of processing.

Hi Larry,

Recently I wrote a script for importing a points and my colleague (he has a summer job for our institute) tried this equipment chain to digitize a part of some stuff:
-Notebook with WinXP
-MicroScribe G2X + Notepad
-MoI + script (actually, custom command)

It might help you... it is not a perfect solution, on the other hand it is quite funny for hobyist...
You won't get a point cloud, but only a huge set of individual point objects, polyline or free-form curve, though.
