Hi everyone
Long time lurker, this is my first post. A few words about me: I've been working in archviz for the last 20 years, modeled everything in polys/subd. That said, I was always interested in NURBS tools. I've tried to master them when they were introduced in max 2.5 (back in '98 ?). Of course, Michael wasn't there to tell me what I should and shouldn't do with them ;-) so that led to a lot of pain. I've tried Rhino over the years, but it wasn't essential for my work.
Back in 2015. I started to work on some product design apart from archviz, and suddenly needed iges files for mould producers. Discovered MoI website that looked strangely like a kid's toy, and was immediately impressed. Drawing/snapping/manipulating felt just right, and my first thought was "how come that nobody has done this before, so intuitive". After several rounds of product design (admittedly simple geometry), I find myself using MoI just for the fun of it, sweeping, hacking and chopping with trims and Booleans. You know, all the things I've learned to avoid before.
I'd like to mention a few people whose work made this piece of software so great, and this forum a great help to get me up and running:
-Michael Gibson. A man that apparently never sleeps, how is he doing all this is beyond me. He also has ENDLESS patience (yes we would like Alias features please, at a price below $ 300 ;-) Next week/month, if possible. Please ;-)
-Max Smirnov, the Wizard. Just imagine MoI without his tools.
-Zarkow. Unparalelled technical mastery and wacky sense of humor. Inspiring, world class work. I have yet to get my head around his surfacing methods.
-Majik Mike. Excellent tutorials that were of immense help.
Thank you gentlemen, and many others too numerous to mention.
See you around
CK
