I have a surface i need to make that maya is giving me trouble with, is there a way to bring the curves into moi? I've tried selecting the curves and exporting them as either STEP, SAT, or IGES and none of them brought anything into Moi.

Hi Austin, according to here Maya is supposed to support exporting curves to IGES format:
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/alias-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2019/ENU/Alias/files/GUID-9AC7A982-AFD7-44BA-A50B-7562C747EA35-htm.html

Could you post the IGES file that Maya exports so I can take a look at it?

These are the maya binary and IGES files for these curves. The mb file contains the maya file, but the igs even when i reimport into maya nothing shows up, nor in Moi.

Hi Austin, thanks for posting the IGES file. I examined the file in a text editor and it's an empty file. It contains only the IGES header section but no entities at all.

So the curve export out of Maya does not seem to be working there, that's the problem. I don't really have any way to help you with that part myself - I don't have any control over how Maya does its exports. Unless someone else around here might know you would need to contact Autodesk or maybe ask about it on a Maya forum.

I think that it used to work in older versions, maybe it's something they removed though or there is some bug in recent versions with it.

I guess one other possible thing is maybe you have to be in some kind of particular selection mode with the curves selected when you do the Maya export?

Thanks for the replies, so I've figured it out. In maya's plugin manager you have to turn on iges.mll and in the export select IGESExport with the curves selected in object mode. The issue I was having is that without turning on that plugin, maya already provides you and IGES export option but its called IGES_ATF Export. The windows explorer refers to both as IGES files but the one that works is .iges while the other is just .igs

Hi Austin, that's kind of tricky to get it to work! I'm glad you have it solved now and thanks for posting how to do it.
