Hi Paul, I usually use PaintShop Pro for doing that. There are other image utility programs you can also use, some of them free like IrfanView.

But it is also possible to do it just with stuff built in to Windows - you can push the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard to put a snapshot of the screen into the Window clipboard, and then run the old Windows paint program (pbrush.exe), and inside there do a Ctrl+V to paste the image in from the clipboard, and then save as a JPEG type image out of there.

Michael ,

I just discovered the print screen method a few minutes ago.
I'm more of technician then a graphic artist so I even have to learn the basic stuff .
Here's a jpeg of a basic bassguitar body I'll try to cncrout it in a scaled size version next week .

Thanks,

Paul

Hello Pilou ,

Thank you for the tutorial of the picture insert in Moi . I sometimes worked like this in 2d cad .
When you know certain measurements of the instrument or object in real you can scale the drawing to that and draw a real life instrument based on a picture .
It goes much faster in Moi than in my other cad programs .

Greets ,

Paul

Seems you find the trick :)
You rocks! Indeed that is the task ! :)
You are a genius! :)
But how do you make that ?
With the sandbox or with an another plugin?
You use the 3ds format?
I am curious of that :)
What is your process?

first:
curves lines arrive in Sketchup as a Component and when you explode the component curves will become separated

second : what function use for the Skin, Buble etc...

Hi Pilou
NOOOOO no genius, (toolman, HIHI) is a plugin from:

http://www.tensile-structures.de/index.html

Tool is time-limited, =mesh triangles are produced internally ("Sketchup > tab View > show hidden"),
only closed line-loop is accepted, work slowly with complex 3D-curve.

It gives still few useful tools for combination Moi+Sketchup.
My faforits gives afterwards.

Seems cool but we can directly export in 3Ds format from Moi for texture or colorize in free Google Sketchup :)
Google Sketchup can import 3Ds Format !

Wow. Just downloaded MoI3D and it is beyond excellent. And thanks to those on this thread for the DXF converter.

I also use SheetCAM and seem to be always looking for a usable CAD package to draw simple 2D parts for machining and 3D for a bit of concept modelling. I'm not a full time mech designer so can't deal with the neverending learning curves of various 3D packages (Solidworks, Alibre) or slow "Autocad style" of nearly every 2D package out there, which always seem to cost too much for casual use.

Hi adx, I'm glad that you like MoI!

If you end up cutting any designs you drew, please post a photo here, it would be fun to see them.
