Hi-
I was wondering if the Network command needs a more powerful graphic card. I have iMac 2011 with an Radeon HD6770M 512M and tried building an all surface object but cannot create a network with these curved object. My loft and sweep works, but not network. I have followed tutorials and read manual of MOI.
I am new to 3D modeling and need some assistance.

No need powerful computer & / Or graphic card for use Network! ;)

You must post image and a file 3dm for more Help!

Generally 4 curves 3D closed or near closed will work for the NetWork! ;)

In the case of "near closed" or complex closed curves better to make NetWork 4 curves selected by 4 curves!



You can select all in this following one for NetWork (with circles no trimed! ;)


(for faces on Circle more simply Select circles and Construct / Planar after the Network! ;)

Hi FED, the Network command doesn't really depend on the video card. But it does need the curves to be in a particular kind of arrangement, there has to be 2 sets of curves that cross over each other in a type of 2D grid pattern. If it can not find that type of 2D grid pattern Network won't be able to make a surface.

If you are having a problem with some curves not working as expected, please post a .3dm model file that contains the curves, that will make it possible to give you some better feedback on why it is not working.

Hi FED, it helps a lot if you can please post the .3dm model file with the curves in it instead of only a screenshot.

That way I can do things like examine where the endpoints of your curves are and zoom around and inspect it from various angles and other stuff like that which isn't possible to do with a screenshot.

From your screenshot my best guess is that it looks like some of the curves in one direction are closed and some are open - all of the curves in one of the network directions should be the same with regard to open or closed, not a mix.

Hi FED, so to make a network you would need to reconfigure your curves by cutting the bottom one in half using Edit > Trim so you've got pieces like this:



Then you'll be able to have 3 curves in this direction:



And then in the other direction you'd need to use Edit > Separate and delete the bottom pieces so you had the other curves set up like this:



Then you would be able to use Network, see attached file. But it will be difficult to avoid a kind of pinching effect at the "poles" in such a configuration.

For dome shapes rail revolve can be better, although you will give up some of the control over the sloping of the sides. But to use rail revolve, you'd select this for the profile curve:



Then run Construct > Revolve > Rail revolve, then pick the bottom closed ellipse as the rail, and then pick the revolve axis here:





That will make the pole where the surface pinches together to a single point to be at the top and to have nice shaping there.
