Hi Michael-
I have been noticing that the beta version 4 on the iMac has been crashing. I have been using the program for about 30 minutes, then the main screen fully maximized will freeze.
Are other Mac users having an issue?
Best,
Robert

Hi Robert, I don't think I've heard from other users about a problem like that. What type of iMac do you have?

Also is there any crash report generated? If so can you please e-mail it to me at moi@moi3d.com so I can take a look at what might be going on?

Crash reports should be located at ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/ and will have a file name like MoI_DATE_NAME.crash .

Hi Michael-
I have an IMAC 21.5 screen size, Mid 2011, 2.7 GHZ intel core I5, 4GB 1333DDr3. and AMD Radeon HD-6770 512MB.
I wasn't able to take a screen shot or a report. I will monitor this issue to see if a report is generated. I need to turn of the computer manually to reboot.
Hope this helps.
Best,
Robert

Hi Robert, what OS are you running?

If the entire machine freezes instead of just one program crashing that is pretty likely to be a hardware problem.

I did a quick search on "iMac 2011 freezing" and saw quite a lot of results, like this:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/2011-imac-freezing.1173980/

Does your system have the original hard drive it came with?

Also from your description that kind of thing with "entire machine" problems after a certain period of heavier use could be from overheating. An older machine can accumulate dust in it and prevent its cooling system from working as well as it originally did. It would probably be a good idea to try and clean dust out of it like this:

Hi Michael-
Thanks for the advice and I am using Mohave version.
I think the issue is the minimize button located at the top left of screen. The red dot and green dot are showing, but the yellow button for minimizing doesn't appear to be lit to access and cannot minimize the window. Note : I am showing an attached image for reference only-not the actual problem, the dots go from left to right, red, yellow, and green. The actual issue doesn't allow me to create a screen shot for some reason.
Also, this issue is only happening on MOI V4 Beta, not my Version 3 or the road programs.
Hope this helps!
Best,
FED

Hi FED, maybe I misunderstood but it sounded like your entire system was freezing and you had to use the power button to shut it off? Is that not the case?

re: yellow minimize button not lit - that is normal if you are in "full screen" mode. In recent Mac OS versions the green button behaves a little differently than it used to for standard applications. Instead of just enlarging the window it goes to "full screen" mode and it is normal there to have the yellow button grayed out, you should see the same behavior in all the built in apps like Finder, Safari, TextEdit, etc...

It is indeed different in MoI v3 but that is because MoI v3 uses a non-standard mechanism called XQuartz that is hard coded to behave like OSX 10.6 instead of using the current standard OS behavior. MoI v4 has been rewritten to eliminate this and to behave more like standard apps do.

A couple of things you can do if you don't like full screen mode - if you hold down the Alt key while you click the green maximize button it should give the same behavior as old operating systems instead of taking you to full screen mode. Also double-clicking in the title bar will do that as well. When you are in full screen mode you can click the green button again to come out of full screen mode and have the app window back on the main desktop.
