Scaling question

Hi All,

I'm trying to scale the inner teardrop shape such that the outer shape is 2.2mm away from all sides of the original. Looking at the picture, it's pretty obvious that some parts of the outer teardrop are less or more than 2.2mm away from the inner one. When I scale, i select the "Bounding box centre" as the origin point. Could someone explain how I can get the outer shape to be exactly 2.2mm larger than the inner one on ALL sides?

Many thanks :)
Gunter

Hi Gunter - yeah a scaling operation won't produce that kind of constant thickness result you're looking for, except in special cases like with a circle.

Like Finema writes above use Construct > Offset for that kind of thing rather than scaling.

Hi Gunter,

As noted by Finema & Michael, use the Offset...
...but note that curves created by Offset will be Points heavy...
...so select your offset curve & use Rebuild to reduce the Points.

Hi All,

great, thanks for the solution. Offset is the obvious choice... duh!

It's weird I've used offset so many times for similar work but it just never popped into that hold head of mine. Go figure :)

Many thanks
Gunter
