Hi Everyone! I am completely new to MOI :), deciding if to go Fusion 360 way or MOI, so far 3 days with MOI and looks more intuitive and with more natural modeling flow. Trying the trial version, looked around forum and found lot of cool stuff, documentation and tutorials!!! So I would like to thank everyone for lot of interesting information around MOI, it's customization, addons and also thanks to Michael Gibson for creating really awesomely intuitive software for nurbs modeling with cool features!

I putted together UI basic setup mixed from custom ui and addons found around forum + my small tweaks and decided to share it here if someone new would like to grab ready to go edited version of ui with all the cool addons in one package. Hope you are ok with it guys.

Included in package:
CustomUI by Max Smirnov
Import Obj v1.5 by Max Smirnov
Subdiv beta 9 by Max Smirnov
Moi 3D's Lighting Options and You! by Mike K4ICY
Samuel Zeller Dark UI

+ my small tweaks to menus and pallets.
+ my first shortcuts version (needs proper modeling testing if it suits me or not :))

Hope someone will find it helpful/useful :)

backup your ui folder and unpack whole rar file to your MOI install folder -folders: commands, objects, ui
if you want to use also my shortcuts copy also moi.ini to MOI install folder or C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\Moi
or you can open ini file and just copy paste shortcuts located in the end of file to your MOI.ini

UI screenshot:

here is list of shortcuts:

Yep I am going to try Fusion360 bit more this weekend.

Maybe it is a question for other thread, but one thing in a MOI I am bit lost is gizmo for transforming objects.

1) Is there some addon for the transform gizmo? Or which script activates move/rotate/scale gizmo (the one that shows in 3d view if pressed in 2d views) that I can make shortcut and do not need to go to 2d view.

2) Is there possibility to change gizmos local/world space coordinates or custom space coordinates for rotation/move/scale? Or is there a plan to update transforming gizmo for V4 with more features?

So far it is only thing that feels little bit stiff to me. Sorry if it is just because lack of my knowledge and mentioned in documentation, I didn't went trough complete documentation just yet.

Thanks a lot!

Hi David,

MoI is focused on a 2D edit frame similar to what you'd see in a 2D vector editor. That's because the main modeling strategy in MoI is focused on generating the model from 2D profile curves. But if you click and release on the rotation grip of the 2D edit frame that tri ball rotation widget will show up. There isn't any way to trigger it other than by clicking on the rotation grip. There is some more information on the edit frame here:
http://moi3d.com/3.0/docs/moi_command_reference11.htm#editframe

Sorry, no MoI does not store a separate "local axis" for every object like you'd see in an animation type program. Right now there isn't a plan for updating that for v4. You can set a construction plane using View > CPlane to set the drawing plane to a specific area, and more often in MoI you'd want to draw something more directly in its desired position.

Hi Michael,

thank you a lot for clearing it out for me and pointing at documentation! Completely new way how to model for me, but so powerful and quick for many tasks! And MoI feels to me like opening ZBrush first time, bit different but so cool and effective when get used to controls and tools :).

Construction plane + edit frame features solves it beautifully, cool stuff with the mirroring possibility in edit frame!

Best to read whole documentation :), it will take some time but probably best how to get on track/understanding and speed :)

Thank you Michael!

Hi Brownie, that error comes from using an old v3 beta release (like a cracked version) which is missing some functions that are in the v3 final release version.

So to fix that make sure you're running the release version of v3 and not a cracked version. If you purchased MoI you can get a new download of the full version installer by putting in your license key at http://moi3d.com/reinstall.htm .

Hi Mike, on the Mac v3 version, the ui and commands folders that are mentioned in the install instructions above will be found under drive_c/moi/ui and drive_c/moi/commands .

Just found it I think: Library|Application Support|Moi

So replace moi.int there and all other files on the drive_c ?

Hi Mike, the location of your moi.ini file can be shown from inside MoI by going to Options > General > "Edit .ini file" button. That will pop up a dialog that tells you where the moi.ini file is located.

re:

Yes I think so. You should find the directories it mentions above like the ui folder inside drive_c/moi/ui

Hi creatorzdeitz,

re:

Probably not without some work to modify it to account for changes in the UI structure between v3 and v4.

In v5 there is a built in dark theme, you can turn it on under Options > General > "UI Theme".
