Does this function works only with the open curves, edges and lines?
A volume or a surface can't be "extend"?

Correct.

A surface extend is more difficult to achive, probably won't be for V1.

You can get some kind of an approximate result by using the edge of the surface as the rail curve for a sweep, though.
