ai export

Hi Micheal

This is regarding the export of ai format from a model, a single solid part from step. I have added a screenshot of the part in moi and two screenshots after export in illustrator. As you can see the lines which should come out thick in silhouette mode are all broken and dashed. It must be something in the model as moi can normally export this quite nicely. What could be causing MOI to wrongly interpret these lines?

moi model attached

Matt

Hi Matt, the model attached there seems to be different than the one you show in the screenshots, the attached one looks like this:

Are there possibly naked edges in the model that's having problems? What do you get if you run the select naked edges script from here:
http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=6051.2

The type of problem you're seeing there is basically "self shadowing", where a curve on a surface is getting partially hidden by the surface. MoI tries to avoid this by pulling the curve towards the eye point but it's also able to do a better job of it when there are joined edges where it can determine the surfaces on each side rather than a naked edge.

You can also try bumping up the "Canvas megapixel resolution" option in the dialog to give a denser grid which can increase accuracy.

Hi Micheal
Sorry for late reply, yes the naked edges script fixed it.
