This is a really good enlargement tool ... can't get equal results in Photoshop despite my best attempts.

Thanks for sharing your discoveries, Pilou. Always appreciated.

I've been doing comparative tests between image enlargers for years, and I keep coming back to Photozoom Pro ( http://www.benvista.com/photozoompro/ ). The second best enlarger is Alien Skin's Blow Up ( https://www.alienskin.com/blowup/ ), although that hasn't been really updated for years by the time I write this.

Big JPG (and maybe Let's Enhance too) uses the fairly old WaiFu2x algorithm ( http://waifu2x.udp.jp ), which is very good, and comparable to Photozoom Pro, but without Photozoom Pro's extensive options and friendly UI.

There's also a free open source image enlarger called SmillaEnlarger ( https://sourceforge.net/projects/imageenlarger/ ), but it hasn't been updated for more than a year by the time I write this.

Pilou, here's your avatar enlarged using Photozoom Pro:

Original:

Photozoom Pro, 400% enlargement, Reduce JPEG Artifacts option set to 'Extreme' (more smoothing, at the expense of detail blurring):

Note that most of the jagged edges have been smoothed out by Photozoom Pro's S-Spline algorithm, especially the aliased pixel edges. If you compare the eye spirals with the other enlargements, I think Photozoom Pro gives the best result.

Regards,

Metin

Thx for the effort and Infos!

Of course my original "original" was not perfect! (made in less 5 minutes maybe less one minute (thx ZBrush Texture 47 (?) - i don't remember! )
So they are enormous jaggy artefacts (black lines on the spheric volume part ! )

But this avatar is now well known over the 3D/2D world! :)

Hi Pilou,

I think your avatar should become the default image enlarger test. :D
