Heya!
I thinking about purchasing a license for Siemens NX. Was wondering if anybody had any experience using it.
I love Moi but there are certain tools I miss, feel like I need a supporting software.
So far I've only found positive information about it and I guess I just wanna see if there is anything against it, besides the actual pricetag :)

This question might be more appropriate in another forum I dont know, but I always felt more at home here so I hope you dont mind a non-moi3d related topic

Not sure if this is useful information, but the old Alibre team is back and has acquired the software back from 3D Systems.

They proclaim themselves to be 3D MCAD software for individuals and small to medium sized businesses.

first - NX is a shortcut for nonsense clicks. I am working every day with NX (4 years) and compared to Catia V5 (14 years with V4/V5) the workflow needs more meters of mouse movements. Surface design isn`t intuitive - everything seems to be possible, but hunderets of switches leads to try and error. Filleting in NX super- very stable. Sketcher sometimes gives surprising results while making constrains - other companies uses the same libraries from d-cubed (surpise owened by Siemens) The surface quality is good. Sheetmetal works fine. The assemebly concept works, but seems to be developed between the first and the second world war - maybe with respect to compatibiliy. It depends on that what you want to do and what are you missing at the moment. The only software I hate more is SAP.

Hi Karsten, did you attend training classes when you first started with NX? It would probably be good for Nick to know whether that's pretty much required to get started or if it's not.

yep, I had a training for NX (4 days) and for Catia V4 (3 weeks) and for Catia V5 no training:-) only for DigitalMockUp. I was courious to all that buttons and they did all what I wanted and what I expected.
I`ve worked also with Solidworks and Alibre/Geomagic, HiCad and AutoCAD 10-14. Integrated in Ansys is SpaceClaim since V17 - some very cool features - very useful for preprocessing simulations and a lot of exchange formats. The big advantage of NX for Companies is the PLM - but not the workflow - only the opinion of an old man.

So just to clarify the PLM is stuff like organizing a potentially large number of files, having them in some kind of repository, easier sharing - basically stuff like that which involves many people working together on a project.

If it's just one single person working on a project much of that won't really be applicable is that true?

Yes! Teamcenter - CAM-ToolChain - Change Managment/Version Managment - Material handling, interfaces to Production systems and so on... are also aspects!

I had the opportunity to try out NX for a couple of days now and I gotta say. It's certainly a great software, impressed by several of the tools. It wasnt exactly what I expected, I thought from watching youtube videos that it would feel more intuitive. Well I guess Im used to Moi :)
