Need help with importing into Cinema 4D

Hi Everyone,

Newbie here. I wanted to learn more about hard surfaces and thanks to a tutorial on YouTube, I found about MoI 3D a couple of days ago. I love it.

I'm having a problem while importing a test FBX out of MoI into Cinema 4D. It seems like there isn't enough supporting geometry around the screws. I tried different angle values during export hoping that it would help without success. How do I go about fixing this in MoI?

Thank you in advance for your input.

Baris

Hi Baris, I'm not sure that Cinema4D reads the vertex normals shading information out of FBX files. The type of shading artifact you show there is what tends to happen if the vertex normals used for smoothing are created only from averaging polygon faces rather than read directly from the file.

Try using OBJ format instead of FBX format, I think Cinema4D supports OBJ format better.

Michael, thank you for the fast reply. I tried the obj and that did it. Thank you for this kick ass software. I'm having so much fun learning here.

hello,
some rules to import fbx from moi into c4d. Make shure that "Normals" is checked on in the import-dialogbox. To import explicit vertex normals uncheck "Convert Normals to Phong Tag Edge Breaks"
In your case both importsettings working very well.
In general i suggest to import the vertex normals.

regards,
Stefan

Hi,

Michael, at some point you were talking of including the camera coordinates in the FBX files.
Will this be possible? I often overlay images with vector and this would be very useful.

Thanks,

Marc

Hi Marc, yes I think it is possible to store camera information in FBX files. If you can bring it up again once V4 betas are underway I'll see about adding it then.
