Hi Tom, you can't just copy any kind of data into the clipboard. Well I guess you can put it there but it will only do you any good if it's announced in a format that other programs are expecting and know how to process. As far as I know there aren't any programs that expect to see .obj data in the clipboard.
It's possible for AI format because Adobe has published a standardized name tag ("ADOBE AI3") for AI data in the clipboard and so it's possible for other programs to set the clipboard data and tell the operating system that it's "ADOBE AI3" data and other programs will be able to look for it using that same name label.
As far as I know there isn't any standard clipboard name tag that's used for .obj data and so there isn't any way right now to put an .obj file into the clipboard in such a way that any other program would be able to find it.
