Hollow Extrude

Hello everyone,
your help would be highly appreciated.

Please refer to the visual embedded.

On the right I created the lines with the polyline tool, mirrored the lines and finally joined the lines.
I did the same for the shape on the right. But now the shape on the left is hollow when i extrude it and
the shape on the right is filled when i extrude it. I am confused?

How do i get a fill on the shape on the left?

Please advise. Thank you.
Sandeep.

Hi,

looks like that the yellow profile lines from the green object are not planar.

Stefan

Hello Stefan,
yes they are not planar, so how do I get a fill effect with this shape?

Sandeep.

extrude the shape as planar, then cut off the non planar with a curve or shape and a boolean.

Hi
Highlight (select) all the points and use the align tool. That will make them planar.

Hi,

like suggested make them planar and then extrude.

However, i did a small test with ViaCAD and it's Cover Surface function.

I used Cover Surface on a non-planar closed curve to obtain a non-planar surface,
which then can be used with a boolean diff in MoI.

You may try it out to see if that works for you too.

Regards
Stefan

...or maybe post the green shape and i try to close it with ViaCAD, in case it must be non-planar.

Stefan

Hi SanSingh !
I suggest you to follow Burr's guidelines :) but let me show you an alternative way to put a patch on your object (or something like that)

I try to replicate your profile moving few points

now extrude it

hide the profile curve, select red edges and join them, edges will be sections and rails for sweep

this is resulting surface after sweep

do the same with the back, join all surfaces and you'll obtain a solid

maybe this won't work with your model but in future could be helpful....just an idea ;)

Hello Mauro,
thank you for going through all that effort to help me out.

BurrMan's suggestion worked. I will also keep your method in mind as an alternative.

Thank you so much! Much appreciated.

Cheers.
Sandeep.
